Why You Need a Chalkboard Wall in Your Home

Imagine this. Eight months pregnant and very crabby after dealing with a temperamental toddler all day, I told my husband that I wanted him to make a chalkboard wall in our basement. Doesn’t seem like a huge request, does it? Well, it was at 11 p.m. And I wanted it done immediately.

Thankfully, being the smart husband that he is, he instead gave me chocolate ice cream and rubbed my feet so I could fall asleep and then promptly headed to the hardware store the next morning. And if you ask him, he will tell you that he’s so glad that he did.

You see, our chalkboard wall is “Grand Central Station” in our house. We use it for so many things and in so many ways that after you read this, I DEMAND that you get started on creating your own chalkboard wall. Seriously…and if you are local, I will even drive you.

That’s a great idea! We had a whiteboard walls at work – huge walls too – and it was used tremendously. One was used so much that the request was put in for more wall to be painted with that paint.

I really like how you’ve evolved your blog. I know I haven’t left much comments, but I am enjoying seeing what you’re doing.

I totally want one. I was actually thinking of doing a chalkboard on the front of my fridge. I think it’s such a cool idea.

I have been in love with chalkboard walls for the longest time. In fact, I have a Pinterest Board dedicated to anything chalkboard. I just dunno where to get the chalkboard paint ( or whatever it’s called ).

I love this idea! Having a bigger chalkboard space for my kids to have fun would be perfect in our finished basement, play area. Regular boards are always too small or unreachable.

Get out of my head! I am working on one this weekend for my weeky menu for dinner so the hubs and kids can know whats for dinner ahead of time I get tired of them asking.

Yes! I painted the back of my kitchen door in chalkboard paint and it’s one of the best decorating decisions I’ve ever made. I love being able to write the week’s menu up there, and special holiday messages. I will never again not have a chalkboard in my kitchen.

Love all the pics. 🙂 I have wanted a chalkboard wall for a while, but I don’t think it will happen unless we are able to move. All of our walls are painted with that bumpy effect, and there’s no way to make it smooth. :/
We are hoping to be able to move in a few years though, so here’s to dreaming! 🙂

I’d love to have a chalkboard wall. You know, though, with a toddler, I won’t be able to write anything important on it. He’ll be erasing it so he can draw basketballs on it.

This is an awesome idea indeed with little ones around. I love the idea of having the family rules on the chalkboard wall. Thanks for sharing.

I wanted to do a chalkboard wall in my kids playroom but I held off on it when a friend of mine who did the same thing said don’t expect it to stay on just the chalkboard wall, it was on every room of their house. I think I will wait one more year before we do this just to drive home the point that only the chalkboard wall is where we draw, no other walls. LOL.

That’s funny because I have had the exact opposite…the rest of my walls are spotless and I think it is because they know there is one spot where they can go crazy!

I wish we had one when my kids were smaller! We have had always had easels and then chalkboards, but a whole wall would have been so fun!

I LOVE chalkboard walls! I put some chalkboard paint on a wall in our kitchen and then made a frame so we had a big menu board. I’m thinking after my fiancé and I get married and start having kids I may have to extend the chalkboard down so they can have some fun with it too. Hope you’re having a great week!

The frame is a great idea…you could even use it for wedding planning or a count down to the big day!

We have a white board at home and I usually use it for work purposes. Your post gave me an idea to create a chalkboard maybe for the kitchen :).

Hahaha at the time of the night you needed a chalk board lol well he sounds like an awesome husband. I want a chalkboard for my apartment now.

I was a crazy pregnant lady, what can I say? Thankfully we get a ton of use out of it so my husband doesn’t tease me too much.
