The BEST Ice Cream in Chicagoland

As I write this, the air is getting cooler and the days are getting shorter.  In short, summer is almost over.  ALMOST.  But here’s the thing, no matter the season, I can ALWAYS go for some delicious ice cream.  The only problem is that some of my favorite spots are only open seasonally, so I need to eat my fill before they close up for the season—as should you!  Read on to see my top picks for the best ice cream in Chicagoland.

Looking for a decadent sundae?  Well, there is really only ONE place to go: Margie’s Candies.  The hot fudge is the stuff of dreams.  You can even get a sundae that is large enough for the entire family to share (the perfect way to celebrate the last or first day of school if you ask me!).  Homer’s Ice Cream in Willamette is a close second if you are jonesing for a banana split or other type of traditional sundae.  Just be sure to bring some wipes when you go…you will undoubtedly get sticky devouring the colorful concoctions.

How about the ultimate ice cream sandwich? Then head over to Cream Bar in Schaumburg for a fun and unique twist on ice cream sandwiches featuring freshly made cookies, brownies…even rice krispie treats!

What about ice cream flavors?  I’m the type of gal who likes to stick with traditional flavors.  Thankfully, there are some artisan shops that are making traditional ice cream flavors and cones—but with a twist.  I love chocolate and mint chocolate chip, and the addition of Frango Mints (which make my Chicago girl heart SING!) over at Capanarri’s kicks those traditional flavors up a notch. What are the most consistently decadent and delicious places that tickle my tastebuds?

Capanarri Ice Cream—Mount Prospect

Cone Gourmet Ice Cream—Chicago

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream—Chicago

And how about the “new kid” in town?  Yep, that’s right, I’m talking about the uber trendy gelato.  You can get a surprisingly delicious gelato cup or cone at your local Mariano’s, but I really think Black Dog Gelato and Frost Gelato in Highland Park and Naperville reign supreme.

Rather make ice cream at home? Here is a collection of my easy homemade ice cream recipes!

Enjoy the sweet treats!

Ive always had a sweet tooth and what kind of a person wouldn’t love ICE cream! Things used to be simple and then out came obesity and diabetes to ruin everything! Glad to know that with the help of modern technology we are finding a way around it though.

Ice cream at home is good, but ice cream at an ice cream shop is great! I love go to an ice cream parlor but my favorite are the ones where you can add your own toppings.
