It’s that time of year when your social media feeds are absolutely FLOODED with photos of kids holding signs on their first day of school. I absolutely love seeing how my friends’ and families’ kids have grown…especially when they are dragging their feet and putting on a sour puss for the first day of school. But even more so, I love the creative signs and captions. Have writer’s block due to the first day jitters? The first day of school can be filled with TONS of different emotions for both students and parents, so why not fill your letter board with a cheeky message? This year will be the first one when BOTH of my boys will be at school all day, so I’m going to feel like an empty nester on the walk back from school (our dog is going to get more attention than she has had in YEARS). If you are like me, own the tears and call yourself out on a silly letter board.
Show Off Your Child’s Personality
One of the most important things we can teach our kids is to be unique and celebrate what makes them different…so why not spell out a letter board message that showcases your child’s one-of-a-kind personality? When I asked my youngest what he wanted his letter board to say, he didn’t hesitate whatsoever in making his “Too Cool for School” Letter Board.
Play with Words
Instead of simply stating “First Day of First Grade,” think about how you can play with words a little bit. For example, “Ready to Rock First Grade” or “Look Out First Grade” is so much more playful and fun.
Set a Goal
It’s always fun to ask kids questions about the future to see what their reactions will be. The classic prompt of “What do you want to be when you grow up?” will offer a ton of fun responses perfect for a First Day of School Letter Board.
Get In On the Fun
Finally, be sure to grab a letter board for yourself. This year is the first time both of my boys are going to school full time so I am SO THANKFUL that I can step up my writing career and get more accomplished with my boys busy at school all day. It’s a bittersweet moment but one I think ALL of us were ready for.
Need a letter board last minute? You are in luck! Target always has a ton in stock and their same day pick up service must have been created for procrastinating parents…am I right? Check these letter boards out.
