While 2020 might be uprooting just about ALL of your holiday plans, there are many Chicagoland tree farms open this year for you to continue your family’s annual tradition. I’ve narrowed down all of the options within an hour or so of the city to create this list of the Best Chicagoland U-Pick Christmas Tree Farms.

First off, even though tree farms are outdoors, there is a large risk of being exposed to Covid when in public with groups of people. If this makes you uncomfortable, take advantage of curbside pickups that many nurseries (such as my favorite holiday headquarters, Pasquesi Home and Gardens) and some tree farms offer.
My family has gone to cut down a tree the past four years but we still haven’t decided what we will do with the number of Covid case rising in Chicagoland. No matter what, do what feels right for you and your family and remember to bring a mask for any and all of these Chicagoland U-Pick Christmas Tree Farms.
How to Prepare for a U-Pick Christmas Tree Farm Experience
When going to a tree farm, be sure to dress appropriately by dressing warmly in layers, wearing weatherproof boots like these, and bringing an extra set of thick gloves that can withstand pine needless. Hand warmers can also help to fend off the winter chill!
If you have one, bring your own saw (many tree farms offer saws to borrow with a refundable deposit), a blanket to drape on your car before putting the tree on top of it, and extra twine—just in case.
Expect to have to search a while to find the perfect tree, and have an idea of what kind of tree you are looking for before you set out. Some farms specialize in certain trees, while others are very rare to find this season. I tried to list as much helpful info related to each individual farm, but be sure to check their website and social media for updated information.
