As relaxing as Winter Break might sound (no alarms in the morning, a respite from homework and packing school lunches, etc.), experienced moms like me know that it will slowly morph into days filled with snack requests and kids complaining that they are bored—while being surrounded by brand-new Christmas presents. How can you keep your sanity? By getting the kids out of the house where they can burn energy and have fun while you sit back and take a breath after surviving all the hustle and bustle. So my holiday gift to you, dear mamas, is this list of the BEST places to burn energy over Winter Break in Chicagoland:

BROOKLYN BOULDERS
My kids have been begging to go back to Brooklyn Boulders after we Scaled with Santa, and over Winter Break the West Loop indoor climbing facility has both Kids’ Academy classes and day camps to choose from. Adults can climb, too, and it is the perfect way to get a jump start on your New Year’s fitness resolutions.
THE ZONE
A Northwest suburban gem, The Zone is a gym that has classes, camps and drop-in play opportunities for kids who are interested in Parkour. Now that it has been remodeled, The Zone boasts not one but TWO foam pits for energy-burning play, as well as ample seating for parents.

ROCKIN’ JUMP
Out of all of the trampoline park options, Rockin’ Jump is our favorite. Why? Because of the vast amount of activities, differentiated areas for specific age groups, and the unique theme options. They host fun themed nights like “Jump ‘n Glow” consistently throughout the year, not just over winter break, which makes Rockin’ Jump stand apart.
ULTIMATE NINJAS
Love watching “American Ninja Warrior” with your family? Then checking out Ultimate Ninjas over winter break is a MUST. Whether you choose to sign up for classes, try out a camp, or simply droop in for open-play time, your little ninjas will feel both accomplished and exhausted by the end of the day. I mean, how great would it feel to get to the top of the Warped Wall?

RAINBOW PLAY SYSTEMS OF CHICAGO
Kids love playing on swing sets and going through playground withdrawal this winter? Then head to Rainbow Play Systems of Illinois in Vernon Hills or Naperville to explore their MASSIVE showroom. For $10 per child, kids can explore over 20 swing sets and imagine that they are basking in the sunshine. It makes the countdown to Spring SO MUCH QUICKER.
Here’s to hoping that this list gives you a head start on being active in the new year…and keeps you sane, too.
