Unique Travel Mementos

Life has started to settle down now that summer is over and we are back in a school year groove. And while that’s great an all, it makes me miss our carefree days when we would go on spur-of-the-moment adventures and laugh so hard our cheeks hurt. Since our schedules won’t allow a weekend away anytime soon (darn school and sports activities!), it doesn’t mean that we can’t relive our past trips and dream about future ones. One of the best ways to spark our conversations about beach trips so vividly that we can almost feel the sand between our toes is through travel mementos. Check out these unique travel mementos that will help your family relive your best travel memories year after year.

Flytographer Photo Shoot

As I have previously shared, we booked a Flytographer photographer during our 10th anniversary trip to Hawaii and it was one of the best travel based decisions we have ever made. Not only was it budget friendly (use my coupon code HERE), but we also ended up with stunning photographs that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Even better? My husband got to take a break from his role as Instagram Husband and I got to actually be IN the photos. Read all about our Flytographer experience here.

It makes such a great and unique travel memento because you get high quality photos to remember your trip with little to no work on your part. That means no stressing about taking the perfect Instagram photo, asking a fellow tourist to snap a photo, or begging your kids to smile for the camera.

Holiday Ornaments

The holidays are a time for nostalgia, and when you have a unique travel mementos like a colorful ornament from your family’s travels to hang on your Christmas tree together, it sparks talk about what made that trip special and will undoubtedly get everyone chatting about the next family adventure.

Every time we go on a trip—whether it is a staycation or a plane flight away—we scoop up a holiday ornament to serve as our unique travel memento. Even my husband, who didn’t grow up celebrating Christmas, has gotten on board with scouring gift shops and airports for the PERFECT ornament to document our trip together.

Leave town without an ornament? No worries! Just make your own ornament based on our favorite travel photo. There are tons of stylish options available from Minted or Shutterfly, and they make the perfect holiday gift.

Write to Me Journals

It might just be the English Teacher in me speaking, but there is something truly magical about journals. Not only do they tell a story, but the art of handwriting tells its own unique story. I have tracked down and kept every single thing that both my Dad and Nana have written to me in a memory box because just seeing their handwriting is like seeing their voice, things I have missed terribly since they have passed away.

Write to Me has a full line of unique products to tell the story of your heart and create lasting family heirlooms. I especially love the “Funny Things My Kids Say” journal, especially while on family trips, because I get to capture my kids’ hilarious sayings that are uniquely theirs.

For example, after my stepmom announced that she burned the waffles she was making for our family breakfast, my three-year-old nephew assured her, “Don’t worry, Grandma Mary. We all make mistakes.” You KNOW that made it into our lake house travel memento.

Don’t forget to check out my brand new Instagram account, @Queencation, for all things family travel related. I’ll be sharing more travel tips and travel destinations now that we just booked some awesome trips for Fall! We will most definitely be scooping up some unique travel mementos to not only decorate our home with, but to also get us reliving our time together all over the world.

Bon Voyage!

I love the idea of doing a travel journal. My kids has been traveling with me since they were born and I wish I could’ve written down everything that they have said.

I love the journal. My husband journals every day – just stating what he did each day but I think it’s a great habit because it keeps you accountable and you can recall the past just by looking at pages before!

We went to Spain for two weeks in the early part of September. I did do ornaments, which is an awesome idea. My daughter and son-in-law did a journal together. What a neat momento!

I love these ideas! We are starting to travel a lot more now that the kids are older and I want to be sure to soak in all of the memories I possibly can. I love the idea of a journal to help keep things to remember for the future.

I especially love the thought of a journal not just to document our travels but to also document the silly things my kids say when we are on our adventures!

This is a great post. I’ve heard of Flytographer and I think I’m going to give them a go myself the next time I do a vacation.

These are great ideas! I love traveling, and these would also make great gifts for the travelers in my life. I wasn’t familiar with these, and I’ll have to check them out.

We travel lots and so I couldn’t agree more with this! We’ve been wanting to try Flytographer for so long and we keep on hearing everywhere that it’s so worth it.

A travel journal is such a beautiful way to preserve travel memories. My sister collects Christmas ornaments whenever she travels. Every year as they put up their tree, they enjoy remembering the fun and adventures they’ve had over the course of their lives.
