As I write this, the air is getting cooler and the days are getting shorter. In short, summer is almost over. ALMOST. But here’s the thing, no matter the season, I can ALWAYS go for some delicious ice cream. The only problem is that some of my favorite spots are only open seasonally, so I need to eat my fill before they close up for the season—as should you! Read on to see my top picks for the best ice cream in Chicagoland.
Looking for a decadent sundae? Well, there is really only ONE place to go: Margie’s Candies. The hot fudge is the stuff of dreams. A close second, Homer’s Ice Cream in Wilmette. Just be sure to bring some wipes when you go…you will undoubtedly get sticky devouring the colorful concoctions.
Let’s talk ice cream. I’m the type of gal who likes to stick with traditional flavors. Thankfully, there are some artisan shops that are making traditional ice cream flavors and cones—but with a twist. What are the most consistently decadent and delicious places that tickle my tastebuds?
Capanarri Ice Cream—Mount Prospect
Cone Gourmet Ice Cream—Chicago
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream—Chicago
And how about the “new kid” in town? Yep, that’s right, I’m talking about the uber trendy gelato. You can get a surprisingly delicious gelato cup or cone at your local Mariano’s, but I really think Black Dog Gelato and Frost Gelato in Highland Park and Naperville reign supreme.
And the best thing to do before you head to one of these fun shops? Grill up a delicious dinner, of course. Here are my grilling tips and my famous bbq dishes that are proven show stoppers.
Enjoy the sweet treats!
