Relaunch Your Career with iRelaunch

I honestly don’t really remember much about my life before I was a mom. It’s all kind of a haze, but I think I was able to sleep in on the weekends, had much more style than I do now, and I remember having an exciting career as a teacher and school administrator. And while I wouldn’t trade the years I got to stay at home and work from home so I could spend as much time as possible with my boys for anything, I’m a bit nervous to launch myself back into the working world now that both of my boys will be enrolled in a FULL SCHOOL DAY next Fall (hip, hip, hooray!). So when I heard about iRelaunch, a multifaceted resource for rejoining the work force, I knew I had to learn more.

What is iRelaunch?

Established in 2007, iRelaunch is the pioneer career re-entry company that empowers individuals looking to restart their career after a hiatus. By providing detailed steps and support as well as connecting relaunchers through private online groups or face to face at conferences throughout the United States, those returning to the workforce undoubtedly build confidence knowing that they are not alone going through the career re-entry process. iRelaunch has built a global community of more than 70,000 individuals who are all at different stages of relaunching their careers.

At the helm of the ship is CEO and Co-founder Carol Fishman Cohen, well known for her TED talk on relaunching careers and co-author of the “Bible of career entry” strategy book Back on the Career Track. Along with the innovative, female-led staff, iRelaunch has created products and services available to help every kind of person looking to relaunch their career, whether it is because of a career pivot, family responsibility, or other life event.

What kind of services does iRelaunch provide?

The iRelaunch website is an invaluable resource for parents like me who are interested in getting back into the workforce after staying at home with kids. After deciding that a career pivot away from teaching and towards writing full time was the best fit for me, I was filled with a mix of excitement and terror because I felt so overwhelmed trying to navigate rejoining the workforce while still having enough time and energy for my kids. But once I started listening to iRelaunch podcast episodes such as “Career Transitions and Relaunching” and “What Can I Do During My Career Break To Maximize My Relaunch Success?” I felt much more capable and inspired.

When I started browsing through the iRelaunch website section specifically for relaunchers like myself, I found tons of free resources such as the “Return to Work Starter Kit” which gives free access to the first step of the “iRelaunch Return to Work Roadmap,” a readiness assessment, an invitation to the private Facebook group for relaunchers only, as well as inspirational testimonials to help motivate you throughout your career re-entry process.

How is iRelaunch used most effectively?

While the free resources from the blog and podcast are invaluable, do not overlook the popular “Return to Work Roadmap” step-by-step online workbook. Through this paid product, relaunchers receive guidance and support through the five phases of a relaunch:

  • Phase One: Make the Most Out of Your Career Break
  • Phase Two: Get Clarity for the Road Ahead
  • Phase Three: Find the Right Career Path For You
  • Phase Four: Grow and Leverage Your Network
  • Phase Five: Launch Your Search

The “Return to Work Roadmap” is very similar to an online course but the beauty is that you can go through it at your own pace (because parents like me know that there is only so much time we can take to focus on our own projects when kids are around), and you can start at whichever step is most appropriate for you. Simply tailor the program to fit your needs or follow through in chronological order. There is no wrong or right way.

Finally, the Roadmap is designed to lead you to one of the flagship iRelaunch conferences held throughout the year. Attendees are provided with a full day of expert guidance and concrete direction, as well as an opportunity to connect with future employers as well as other relaunchers. Their next Return to Work Conference is right in Evanston, IL at the Kellogg School of Management on June 17th.

I will keep this in mind when I go back to teaching in a couple years. I feel like I’m so out of the loop.

It’s so great to have support when you are going through a career transition. It’s such a scary time.

Oh my god. This is such a great idea! It can be so hard sometimes to come back from a break! This is such an important thing!

  3. Rachel says

Parents who have taken themselves out of the workforce to care for their families are such a resource. We’ve spent all those years in the workforce building our skill sets and it’s overwhelming to think about putting all those skills back to work. I’m glad to see this iRelaunch recognizes and values this group.

Always wanted to work from home on a full time basis. I just know that 9 to 5 is not for me and I want to be more. This program may help me a lot in achieving my long term goal!
