Pigtails and Crewcuts

Typically I shy away from franchises because I prefer to support small businesses, but when you find a gem like Pigtails and Crewcuts, it is hard to pass it up.

From its cute name to its kid-focused stylists and décor, Pigtails and Crewcuts has everything you could ever want in a kids’ salon.  I have had wonderful experiences in two different locations, at Randhurst Mall and The Glen Town Center, and I can safely assume that all other locations are just as stellar.

How did Pigtails and Crewcuts win us over?  Well, let’s just say that our oldest hates having his hair cut.  And by hates, I mean it took three adults to keep him still when he was 9 months old long enough to get a simple trim when we took him to a salon a friend had recommended.  There was lots of tears, and not just by our little guy.

So when it was time for his second hair cut (his hair grows like crazy so it forces us to give him a trim more often than most other kids), I looked into places that specifically cater to kids.  Enter Pigtails and Crewcuts.

The Pigtails and Crewcuts Difference

Knowing that other kids are just as anxiety ridden about haircuts or new experiences, they recommend that you arrive about 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.  Why?  So that they can have a blast with all of the toys!  The train table is a big hit, and my broom loving boys were welcome to sweeping up anything they found on the ground at the salon, hair or not (if only they were this helpful at home).

There are two different types of hair cutting stations for your kiddos to choose from….regular chairs or cool race cars, airplanes, taxis, or other types of transportation.  My boys tend to pick the cool cars now, but when they were little they preferred to sit on my lap in one of the traditional seats and instead be distracted by their own personal television monitor (they will put on any movie or show that you request, too!).

But what I most grateful for at Pigtails and Crewcuts?  The stylists.  Most of them are parents themselves and are understanding about each individual child’s needs (and fears), so they do a great job explaining the equipment they will use to kids, letting them try out the razors (with safety guards attached, of course), singing songs, asking questions, and giving you a great haircut even when your child is wiggly.  I even had a wonderful stylist cut my son’s hair while he played at the train table since he was having such a horrible time sitting in his seat.

Extra Fun for Parents and Kids

Pigtails and Crewcuts offer many different packages, from a special “First Haircut” package to a 10 pack of haircut services.  If you follow your local Pigtails and Crewcuts on Facebook, you can also enter in their monthly drawings for free haircuts.

If you have a fun event coming up like a school party or birthday, Pigtails and Crewcuts has you covered.  You can simply stop by for one of their experienced stylists to braid or create a fun “updo”, as well as a nail polish application.  They also host a wide range of parties for kids aged 3 and up with different and relevant themes.

Lastly, Pigtails and Crewcuts helps out us busy parents.  You can also get a hair cut there, as well as stock up on haircare products for the whole family.  Have dreaded lice at school?  Pigtails and Crewcuts has the antidote.

Lastly, don’t worry about not having an appointment, just drop in, get a quick refresh, and have an awesome day.

Enjoy the salon!

hair cuts can be so stressful for little ones. And for their parents. This place looks great. I am not in your area, but we have a place similar that we take our kids to. We have been going there for 8 years. My kids love it and I trust their great cuts! What a fun place!

I think shops like this for kids are so cute! I can see how a normal shop can be overwhelming to little ones especially if they have not been before. Your little guy is adorable too!

That’s super cute! My parents actually kept some of my hair from the first haircut, as a memento. I am not entirely sure there is a salon similar to this in my town, then again, there are only 100,000 here.

I’m loving the name of this salon! I’ve never taken my two year old for a haircut, I just can’t bear to get rid of the curls. Your little one looks so handsome with their new haircut. It’s great that they were able to play with toys and brush up too 🙂

I’ve seen this chain before, but we’ve never tried it. My youngest is turning 5 and she is terrified of the thought of going to a hair salon. I’ve been cutting her hair for years, but I sure would like to take her to get it cut.

It was the only place that turned my oldest’s hair cutting fears to hair cutting joys. Seriously. It was like magic!

This is such a cute salon! I love that it makes the experience so much more fun for kids. My son didn’t have his first hear cute yet and I am trying to delay it because I love his baby look with his curls.

After talking to a friend of mine who is a stylist about what it’s like to cut a child’s hair, I am almost certain that going about it in a salon like this would make a huge difference!

Haircuts are always a stressful period of our lives. Event he promise of a lollipop doesn’t smooth the experience over. Maybe a kid specific like pigtail and crewcuts would help us.
