Why I Need a Vacation From My Summer Vacation

I need a vacation from summer vacation. Seriously. I can’t take one more day of sweating at the zoo, avoiding the scalding hot slides at the park, or packing the car one more time for a beach trip. Seriously. I just can’t do it. And for those of you who keep posting “summer please don’t go” on Instagram, I have three little words for you: pumpkin spiced latte. But seriously.  Not ready for Fall yet? Well, let me convince you why it is the absolute BEST time of year for parenting in Chicagoland:

  1. You get to ship the kids back to school. Well, that’s a no brainer of why it’s awesome…unless you are a teacher.
  2. A return to routine. No more waking up and wondering what to do with the kids and wasting time bickering over the day’s events. Our favorite classes? Lil’ Kickers and Big Blue Swim School, of course!
  3. You can enjoy time outside without the boob sweat. Yes, that’s right, I just typed boob sweat. And it’s gone for at least six months…woo hoo!
  4. Cool weather calls for cuddling. And what makes a cuddle fest even better? These adorable Fall themed books from our favorite local publishing company.
  5. It gets darker earlier so it is much easier to get the kids into bed on time, instead of them fighting bedtime since it is still light outside. That means more time for mama to enjoy her wine and coveted TV shows without interruption.
  6. It is finally football season. Well, if you are a Bears fan, you can just think of it as playoff baseball for the Cubbies!
  7. The abundance of Fall themed fun for Chicagoans. Be sure to visit our favorite pumpkin patches and apple orchards.

What are you most looking forward to this Fall?

Happy (almost) Fall!

I love, love, love summer, but it’s been so hot & humid the past few weeks here in Boston that I am ready for some cool air and pumpkin flavored everything.

Summer is my favorite season, but these last few weeks of extremely humid conditions almost have me wishing for fall. It’s always humid during the summer in SC, but lately it’s been beyond humid! I do love football and apples. So maybe, just maybe, I’m almost ready for fall.

Summer is my favorite season, but fall definitely has it’s perks. We like going to the local apple orchard and picking apples.

I can’t wait for a long weekend up to Door County for Pumpkin Fest. That weekend combines a few of my favorite things: travel, pumpkins, petting zoos, and WIsconsin in the fall. Bring it on!

I am already counting down until school here, 20 days left to go! I need a vacation from our vacation too big time but for many different reasons lol!

I’m sure I will be begging for summer heat once the Chicago winter hits….why can’t it just be Fall forever? Maybe I should move…

I don’t have kids, but pretty sure many are all over waiting for that first day back to school so they can have a little break. I watch everyone online talk about it .. waiting while others are back to school already and the moms have their little vacation 😉

I say this every time I get back from vacation. Just that time to get used to being back home, not always on the run from one site to the next.

These are great reasons to need a vacation from summer vacation. The days of back to school are over for me but I would have agreed when my kids were little that I couldn’t wait for the summer vacation to get over at times. The routine I had during the school year was one of the things I missed the most back then and I agree about the boob sweat too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Ha! This is me every year. I already feel as though I need a vacation after each our vacations. It was true when our kids were young, now I guess I don’t really “need” it.

Haha! Pumpkin Spiced Latte! I’ve never heard of someone getting tired of summer! But I get you, all the planning involved for a day with your kids will really tire you out, sometimes you just wanna drop them back to school again!

Ahhhhhhh I need a vacation from summer vacation as well!!! This summer has been nothing but stress brought on by a hyper kiddo lol….

I’ve got two energetic little boys over here so I know exactly what you are going through. Hopefully school will tire them out a bit!
