My Favorite Parenting Short Cut: Pak’d

It’s safe to say that all of us parents are looking forward to sending our kids back to school. A return to structure, learning, playing…and packing lunches. Sigh.  Parents definitely get the short end of the stick, don’t we? There have been so many times I have pulled myself out of bed late at night because I’ve forgotten to make my boys’ school lunches and I am NOT happy about it. Getting my kids to school on time without lunches made the night before? Impossible for me and my crew. That’s why I’m so glad I discovered a lunch solution for parents in Chicagoland: Pak’d.

How Pak’d Works

Picture this….a website with a menu of healthy and balanced lunches all laid out for you and your kiddos to look through together. Then all you have to do is click to order their top choices, or use the interactive website to create a personalized bento box of their favorite foods. That’s it! No planning how to incorporate all of the food groups and make a “Pinterest perfect” lunch, no shopping, no time wasted in the kitchen. Sounds too good to be true? Nope…it actually exists right here in Chicagoland…and it is a game changer for families.

Pak’d lunches arrive the same day they are packed (delivery days are Sunday and Tuesday evenings) and have a shelf life of three days so you can use fresh Pak’d lunches for school lunches every day of the week or just as a special treat if you know that you have a busy week coming up. Everything related to Pak’d, from ordering to delivery, is easy, especially for busy and on the go families.  Best of all, you can rely on Pak’d to prepare a fresh, healthy lunch that accommodates gluten free, nut free and dairy free restrictions so that you do not have to worry about what your child is eating at school.

A Mom Approved Shortcut

My boys aren’t necessarily picky eaters, but it definitely takes them some time to get comfortable with a food change (presentation, seasonings, shapes, cooked vs. uncooked veggie….you get the drift). That’s one of the reasons why I am so hesitant to enroll them in their school lunch program. As a former teacher who has watched tons of kids toss their lunches into the garbage because they didn’t like it, I want to avoid that at all costs.  When I make their lunches myself I am able to control the contents and provide what they like, but to be honest, it is one of my most dreaded “mom tasks.”

Thankfully with Pak’d I am able to have a say in what they are eating but I don’t have to do any of the work. Obviously there is a smart mom behind Pak’d who feels my lunch preparing pain, right?  By using the Pak’d service, I am confident that my boys will not only eat but also enjoy their lunches because I can pick the perfect bento box for them (wafflewich for one and chicken nuggets for the other). And if my boys want something a little bit different than what is offered on the Pak’d website that week, we are able to create a healthy and tasty bento box that includes a protein, fruit, veggie, and their favorite part—a sweet treat—together!

My kids really enjoy the choice involved with bento boxes so it’s a really great idea for a lunch system for all kids to enjoy.

These Pak’d lunches look absolutely delicious and healthy. If I had young children in school I would definitely give them a try. I will share this post with my friends who have school aged children.

That is awesome! With a picky boy like mine, that is simply what we need – he gets to pick what he wants to eat which means saving me time thinking of what to prepare with no food wasted.
