I know that the holidays are supposed to be all about tradition, but sometimes things can get a little monotonous, don’t you think? It is fun to get together with friends and family for the holidays but sometimes you just need to add a little something special to make your time together even more memorable that doesn’t require a TON of work. That’s why I want to share an entertaining idea with you that puts a fun and easy spin on a decadent dessert: a holiday ice cream bar.
This post is sponsored by Graeter’s Ice Cream. All opinions are my own.
What makes an ice cream bar so perfect for celebrating the holidays? Well, first of all, it is unique. Most people aren’t craving ice cream when it is cold outside…and that is the point. It will be a pleasant surprise for your guests who have been binging on the same sweets over and over again. Move over cookies, see you later pies…it’s time for some swoon worthy ice cream. And I’m not just talking about ANY ice cream. I’m talking about splurging and getting the most decadent and creamy ice cream out there, Graeter’s ice cream.
You see, Graeter’s ice cream is so special because of how it is made. This family owned business has been creating French Pot ice cream since 1870. The artisans pour and swirl the finest ingredients into each 2 ½ gallon French pot and the result is rich ice cream that needs to be packing into pints by hand since the ice cream is so incredibly thick and creamy. Additionally, there are so many delicious ice cream flavors to choose from that are PERFECT for the holidays, especially for an ice cream bar. Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip, Mocha Chocolate Chip, Peppermint…the list goes on and on.
In order to set up your ice cream bar, you need the following:
- Holiday themed mugs to spice up boring old bowls
- At least four types of Graeter’s ice cream, especially the Gingerbread holiday flavors!
- Multiple ice cream scoops
- 5-7 small containers arranged on a holiday themed tray
- A myriad of toppings, from sprinkles to chocolate chips, hot fudge and whipped cream…even crumbled cookies and crushed candy canes!
- Napkins and wipes for sticky fingers
- And of course…some creative taste buds!
Usually I host a Christmas cookie decorating party for my boys and handful of their friends during the holiday season. But as much fun as it is, it is a TON of work. And to be honest, my kids get pretty burnt out after decorating more than two cookies and beg to go off and play with their boys. In the past, it has been a lot of work for not much reward. That’s why I thought of hosting a holiday ice cream bar instead and I am so THRILLED that I made that decision.
Not only does Graeter’s make tons of different flavors so that there is a special kind of ice cream that works for everyone, but it was also SO EASY to contain all of the messy fun by using holiday mugs. We simply scooped one or two flavors of ice cream into the mug and then put out a tray with a bunch of different toppings for the kids to pick and choose from. The snowflake marshmallows and candy canes were an absolute hit with the kids, and we moms loved adding chopped pistachios to the Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip ice cream.
If your kids are begging you to have friends over for the holidays, I highly recommend having a holiday ice cream bar because it is delicious, easy to prepare, and there isn’t much of a mess involved. And don’t forget that you can indulge, too, and eat straight of the pint once everyone leaves.
