Lunch Box Ideas for the Whole Family

It’s baaaaccckkk.  Yep, you know what I’m talking about: school.  At this point everyone is refreshed, refocused and ready to have a successful year.  But there’s one thing that I don’t particularly love about going back to school.  I love the homework, don’t mind organizing our schedules, but I LOATHE making lunches.  So thankfully I have come up with some easy lunch box ideas that work for both kids AND parents (talk about two birds with one stone, eh?):

BENTO BOXES

Don’t get me wrong, I love Instagram and Pinterest (I mean, if you aren’t already following me, you’re missing out!), but I have been super skeptical about the whole Bento Box thing.  I mean, I’m not the mom who is going to cut sandwiches into cute shapes.  I’m just not.  But I love the fact that I can quickly pack both of my boys lunches, ensure that I am including a wide variety of options, and being as “green” as possible with bento boxes.

After a bit of research, I have found these Bento Box winners:

Here is a week (plus one day, just because) of some Bento box recipe ideas for BOTH kids and parents:

*Turkey lunch meat roll, carrot sticks, mixed berries, cheese stick

*Slice of frittata (use any type of cheese and veggies you have at home), melon medley, yogurt

*Cubed chicken, mixed green salad with dressing and berries, smoothie

*Mac n’ cheese, apple slices, raw broccoli with ranch dip, trail mix

*Banana muffins (or any variety you prefer), sliced peppers with Italian dressing, orange slices, cheese cubes

*Hummus with pita chips, sliced veggies for dipping, banana, boccocini mozzarella balls

*Grilled cheese, cucumber slices with dressing for dipping, grapes, chickpeas (either fresh or roasted)

*Cubed turkey, pasta salad with veggies and cheese mixed in, pineapple chunks

And since I absolutely LOVE Pinterest (Are you following me yet?  You should!), here are some fantastic recipes I came across while surfing the Internet.

I love the idea of bento boxes. My little guy has this weird thing about his food not touching, so those bento containers are PERFECT for him.

My kids are a bit older and eat a lot more than what Bento-style boxes fit. But I think these are great options for younger kids who like a variety of foods.

I have used an adult sized bento box so I would recommend looking into those…love that it eliminates so much waste!
