Father’s Day gifts always pose a challenge for me. Not only do I struggle with not being a fan of the holiday in general (which you can read about here if you too are missing your Dad incredibly much this time of year), but my husband also can never think of any gift that he would like to receive outside of some drawings from our kids. And since he spoils me rotten on Mother’s Day, I always want to make him feel special and loved on Father’s Day….even if I wait until the last minute because I am in denial that Father’s Day is on its way. So procrastinators, rejoice! Here is a meaningful yet low prep and frugal Father’s Day gift that will be enjoyed all year long: A Daddy & Me Activity Jar.
So, I have lots of popular articles on Pinterest, but let me tell you….I am by no means Pinterest perfect. I lean towards easy, low prep, and affordable gifts that will make the special people in my lives feel loved. All you need for this amazing Father’s Day gift is a glass jar (pull one out of the recycling bin if need be—just be sure to add a splash of bleach to get rid of any smells), a marker, and some colorful pieces of paper. That’s it!
This straightforward gift is as simple as possible. Write down fun things that the kids like to do with Dad on strips of paper. The activities can be as broad or as specific as possible. We like to organize the activities a bit by using different color papers to write the activities on (for example, green for “free” activities, purple for special weekend long activities, blue for activities that are outside….you get the picture). Once the jar is filled to the top it is ready to lead the way to fun. Simply reach a hand into the jar and pick out a strip of paper when you are looking for something fun to do…I guarantee the memories will last a life time.
Need some help with figuring out what activities to write on the slips of paper? That’s where my blog comes in. It is FILLED with tons of different types of activities for Dads and their kids to enjoy. My personal favorites?
