It’s officially May, and you know what that means? It’s the month of moms! Well, not really, but at least we get a day to ourselves. Since many moms prefer to do many different things on Mother’s Day (sleep, play outside with their kids, have a boozy brunch, etc.), I didn’t want to write about that. Instead, I am going to give my suggestions on some amazing gifts to get for yourself (because after all, shouldn’t we just buy what we know we want?) and the other amazing moms in your life. All of these gifts are things that make moms feel pampered, and even better—you can get them all locally! Before you start stressing about what to get the wonderful moms in your life, be sure to check out my local gift guide for Chicago moms.
There is nothing more relaxing to me then lighting a beautiful candle and enjoying the glow and ambiance it creates. My favorite place to stock my home? The adorable Evanston boutique, Stumble and Relish. They have so many great candles to choose from, but my absolute favorite are these gorgeous Himalayan candles.
Our neighbor to the East (Hello, Indiana!), Shelby Goodman, the mom behind the Honeysuckle Shop, creates the most beautiful custom silhouettes from digital photos. I treated myself to a pair of silhouettes for the boys and was so pleased in the quality and how quickly the artwork was shipped to us. I will truly cherish them forever.
Moms truly are superheroes. We can bring home, cook, and clean up the grease that the bacon leaves behind. So it is no wonder that the talented and local mompreneurs behind T & J Designs came up with this unique graphic tee. And how cute would this be with one of their statement necklaces?
Have a busy mom who is tackling a never ending to do list? Then visit Posh Chicago and pick up a copy of Le Grand and Le Petite “To Do” Notebooks, set of 3 for $12.95.
Nature loving mom? Then get her a gift membership to the Chicago Botanic Garden. Individual Garden Membership is $90/year and the Garden Plus Membership (household) is $120/year. There are many perks throughout the year, including special events, freebies, and other discounts. And don’t forget to visit every Wednesday during the summer for kids concerts…it’s like Ravinia for kids! For other tips for visiting the garden with your kiddos, check this post out.
I know I’m not alone when I say that there are some nights when I really just don’t want to cook. The shopping, the prep work….none of that sounds appealing to me at ALL. That’s why I’m so glad I can rely on the local meal service Madison and Rayne to do all of the work for me so I can enjoy a glass of wine, listen to some music, and create a healthy and delicious meal for my family. Giving the gift of ease is never out of style, especially not on Mother’s Day.
Looking for a unique way to capture a mother’s love? Then be sure to call Lindsay from Bella Jackson Photography. She is a local mom photographer who specializes in capturing the exceptional moments that life brings & makes beautiful milestones last a lifetime. Contact Bella Jackson photography for family photos, newborn sessions, and mini sessions starting at $175.
Does your favorite mom have a sweet tooth? I know mine do! Thank goodness for Molly’s Cupcakes. This adorable shop serves up delicious lattes, swoon worthy cupcakes, and delicious treats that will fulfill anyone and everyone’s sweet tooth. Oh, and be sure to get the Ron Burgandy. Trust me. Sweet treats starting at $2.00.
Just about everyone gets their mom flowers for her special day. But to make your flowers stand out, you need to order from somewhere with unique and high quality blooms. The best place to go? FlowersFlowers in Evanston. Joanne runs the European style flower shop and creates the most stunning arrangements for any and all occasions (including my sister’s wedding). Treat your mom to one of the gorgeous arrangements Joanne and her staff have designed. Arrangements start at $50.
Looking for a great place to let your favorite mom unwind? Treat her to a spa package at Egea Spa in Evanston. This superb spa is not only relaxing, but also uses eco friendly products to help moms relax and rejuvenate. Spa packages range from $135 to $280 and include treatments, facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, and other body treatments, including spa treatments for expecting moms!
Have a coffee lover on your hands? Then be sure to pick up this popular Bodum Chamboard 34 oz French Press from your local Crate and Barrel for only $39.95. And before you start roasting me for including a national business in my gift guide, let me remind you that Crate and Barrel started out in Old Town, literally selling items outside on crates and barrels. My hope is that all entrepreneurs on this list experience the same success that Crate and Barrel has.
Mom and/or Grandma doesn’t text? Then stop by Virtu and pick up some gorgeous stationery. My favorite is the Snow & Graham collection that starts at $13.95 for boxed sets. I have their beautiful calendar on my desk and I must admit that I get super excited to see what beautiful artwork the next month holds.
One of my favorite ways to be pampered is when I get a break from cooking. My favorite market to rely on? Foodstuffs, of course! Visit their locations in Lake Forest, Evanston, Glenview, and Glencoe to pick up some sweet and savory treats for mom. If she is health conscious, the “create your own salad kit” along with Foodstuffs homemade dresses is a sure pleaser. And if she has more of a sweet tooth, the sky is the limit! Personally I love the Fleur de sel Caramel Bark. Treats start at just $4.00.
