How to Throw a Galentine’s Day Party

You know how they say it takes a village to raise a child? Well, it takes a squad to support a mom. And what better way to celebrate your support system than with a Galentine’s Day Celebration? It’s a great excuse to dress up, unwind, and treat your fellow mamas like the queens they are (trust me—I’m an expert). Here are my tips on How to Throw A Galentine’s Day Party.

Before you start any Galentine’s Day planning, it is important to figure out who you want to invite to your girl empowerment soirre. The pot stirrers who always have something to say about the person who just left the room? They don’t need to be there. The women who will celebrate their own successes but not yours? Don’t need them either.

Galentine’s Day is a day to celebrate the friendships that acknowledge, support, and celebrate all parts of you. So call up the mom who picks up your kid (and keeps him at her house until dinner time) when you are frazzled and running late, reach out to woman who is always rooting for you, and of course invite the friends who have seen you at your worst but still love you—warts and all.

Galtentine’s Day Party Tip 1—Find a Great Space

While at-home parties are nice, no one wants to clean up after a party so find a great space for your Galentine’s Day party. Finding a beautiful restaurant for brunch is a solid option, but if you want to be able to curate a space exactly to your liking and bring in your own food and drinks, I highly recommend a space like the Lantern Loft in Forest Park.

As you can see from these photos, it is a large, light, and airy space that you can transform to fit the personality of your girl squad. I especially love that special details are available as well, such as a donut wall or adorable black and white cart.

Galentine’s Day Party Tip 2—Decorate with Blooms

Grocery stores might suggest that Valentine’s Day is all about roses, but as MJ Floral Designs, a talented Chicago florist, can attest to, roses are just a small sampling of the beautiful flowers available around Galentine’s Day.

Small bunches of a wide variety of flowers (think different sizes, textures, and colors) can make a huge impact when arranged together in simple vases. As part of the Galentine’s Day festivities, participants can make their own little bouquets to take home as a sweet token from the day.

Galentine’s Day Party Tip 3—Serve Up Sweets

One of the best parts about the cookies, pastries, chocolates, and candies available around Galentine’s Day is that they are all SO pretty. Pinks, reds, purples, and yellows are prevalent in bakery display cases across Chicagoland and make for the perfect Galentine’s Day sweets table.

Another GORGEOUS (and Instagrammable) sweets option? A donut wall! Lantern Loft has this beautiful rose gold donut wall available, and when decorated with a few greens and freshly baked donuts (Spunky Dunker’s red velvet donuts are so amazing they are available ALL YEAR LONG) it makes for the perfect photo backdrop and snack station.

Galentine’s Day Party Tip 4—Rose’ All Day

Hearty red wines might be in season during the long, cold Chicago winter but for a Galentine’s Day Party you need to have rose’. 90+ Cellars never disappoints and is at the perfect price point that appeals not only to your palette but also to your budget.

Want to make your Galentine’s Day Party more festive than just a simple wine outing with the gals? Then incorporate a rose’ fountain or fun glasses with gold lettering , ombre details, or sparkly accents.

Galentine’s Day Party Tip  5—Book a Photographer

Have you been scrolling through this post and wondering why we look so relaxed and refreshed? It’s because we had a talented photographer (and fellow member of the mom squad) Kristen of Kristen Lisa Photography capturing fun shots for us.

Now, I know that everyone has their own camera phone (and my new iPhone has an AMAZING camera), but having the luxury of a talented photographer who is capturing the fun moments of your Galentine’s Day Party so you can truly enjoy yourself and spend quality time with your girlfriends? It’s a priceless gift. And when everyone chips in, it is an affordable gift.
