How to Create an Epic Halloween Charcuterie Tray

‘Tis the season for sugar—am I right? And I’m not just talking about the loot that kids get from trick-or-treating. But instead of fighting all of the decadent fun, I’m embracing it—within reason. So we are cuddling up on the couch to watch Halloween Baking Championship marathons and putting together a Halloween charcuterie tray. No, I’m not talking about meat and cheese—I’m talking about fun and festive treats that celebrate all things spooky. Here’s how you, too, can create an EPIC Halloween Charcuterie Tray.

Epic Halloween Charcuterie Tray–Step One

Find a fun tray to hold all of your Halloween treats (I mean, you don’t want to be picking candy corn out of your shag rug the next morning, do you?). I recommend a tray that is at least 5” by 5” and has a lip on it to contain the sugary goodness like this fun tray or this ghoulish platter.

Epic Halloween Charcuterie Tray–Step Two

Decide how naughty you want your Halloween Charcuterie Tray to be. You can still have chocolate treats like Halloween bark or chocolate covered pretzels, but you can also include health-ish swaps like trail mix or dried fruit.

I love to create a sweet and salty combo on my Halloween Charcuterie Tray so I include savory treats such as popcorn, Halloween shaped veggie straws, and pretzels in addition to pumpkin flavored cookies, eyeball gumballs, and of course, gummy worms.

Epic Halloween Charcuterie Tray–Step Three

Think about the colors you want to use when creating your Halloween Charcuterie Tray. You can stick with traditional black and orange, or go for more colorful treats like these green Frankenstein peeps. No matter which colors you choose, be sure to space out the colors so purples aren’t next to purples, oranges aren’t next to other oranges, etc.

Epic Halloween Charcuterie Tray–Step Four

Vary the size of your items to give your Halloween Charcuterie Tray depth and make it more eye popping (and Instagram worthy, of course!). I love using colorful donuts like these delicious and adorable ones from Krispy Crème to anchor my tray and then using other uniquely shaped items like pretzel rods to balance it out. Have empty spaces? Fill them with yummy accents like candy corn, gummies, caramels—the sky is the limit!

I recommend stopping at Trader Joe’s for their fun, unique, and delicious Halloween themed items, as well as browsing the Hyde and Eek Boutique at Target. You can find a wide array of sweet and savory treats that will not only taste great, but also look cool on your epic Halloween Charcuterie Tray.

We love creating epic Halloween Charcuterie trays just about every weekend and it is the perfect treat to have by our side when we are reading some of our favorite Halloween themed books.

Why’d you have to go an post such a scary good dessert platter? Now my plans for a sugar free Halloween are going down the drain ! In all seriousness, I’m going to try these out this year

This is so stinking cute! I like doing snack charcuterie boards for my girls when they come home from school with snacky things like fruit, animal crackers, pickles, pepperoni, etc, but I never thought about doing a themed one! You could totally do this for other holidays too. Brilliant!
