Free Chicago Museum Days Fall 2019

We Chicagoans are so incredibly lucky to have so many stellar, state-of-the-art museums at our disposal and it is an absolute CRIME if you don’t get out there and enjoy them. Is your budget holding you back? Then keep this list of Free Chicago Museum Days for Fall 2019 handy. September is a month of deep discounts and since the Bears keep having their schedule flexed, that means that you can spend a leisurely Sunday hanging with belugas, critiquing impressionists, or simply tinkering with your kiddos. Lastly, keep in mind that you need to show proof of valid Illinois residency in order to receive free admission and that extra exhibits are an additional fee.

Adler Planetarium

September 5-6, 12-13, 19-20, 26-27

October 7-9, 14-16

November 8, 11

Art Institute of Chicago

Kids 14 and under and Chicago teens are free all day, every day. Thursday nights are free for Illinois residents from 5-8 p.m.

Brookfield Zoo

Every Tuesday and Thursday from October 1stthrough December 31st.

Cantigny Park

First Wednesday of every month (parking fee). Admission is always free.

Chicago Children’s Museum

Kids 15 and under are free the first Sunday of every month. Kids under 1 are always free.

Chicago History Museum

Free 12:30-9 p.m. on Tuesdays. Kids under 18 always free.

DuSable Museum of African American History

Free on Tuesdays throughout the year. Kids 5 and under are always free.

The Field Museum

Free every Wednesday through November 13th.

Museum of Contemporary Art

Free on Tuesdays. Kids 18 and under are always free. 

Museum of Science and Industry

September 3-5, 9-12, 16-19, 23-26

Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum

Free on Thursdays. Kids under 3 are always free.

Shedd Aquarium

September 3, 4, 9-11, 16-18, 23-25, 30

October 1, 2

Swedish American Museum

Second Tuesday of every month.
