Fall Fun at Pheasant Run Resort

Looking for a way to slow down and savor the beautiful autumn that the Midwest is known for? Then coordinate with your family and head over to Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles before the holiday rush arrives. It is the perfect place for your immediate and extended families to get together for memories that will last a life time. My family and I were lucky enough to enjoy a complimentary stay at Pheasant Run last weekend and enjoyed our experience so much that my boys are already asking to go back. What made it so special?

The Fall Themed Fun

After checking into our room and jumping into the pool minutes later (because my kids are part fish, obviously), we were part of the inaugural hay ride around the Pheasant Run property. The gorgeous wagon was decked out to the nines with lights and garland and every detail was considered…even including cozy blankets for the ride.

Halfway through the trip through the golf course, we disembarked for some delicious hot cider and some spooky stories and tricks from a talented local performer. Families were also able to take part in the entertainment, sharing favorite Halloween stories and jokes that are funny any time of year.

Once the hay ride was complete, we created our own caramel apple at the decadent caramel apple bar (I highly recommend the hot fudge topping in lieu of the traditional caramel—so yummy!). The entire event was so serene and every detail was covered, making it well worth the $10 charge per person.

Families are also able to experience farm life (Pheasant Run was originally built on a farm) through hands on milking, egg gathering, and horse grooming at Primrose Farms. It is such a great way for both city dwellers and suburbanites to unplug and enjoy a slower pace to life…at least for a morning or afternoon.

Something for Everyone

One of the reasons why Pheasant Run is such a great place to visit with extended family is because it is such a vast resort with endless amenities and entertainment. Instead of being a typical hotel with a pool, fitness center, and restaurant, Pheasant Run boasts so much more:

  • Two indoor pools (there is even a unique indoor/outdoor pool) with hot tub
  • Live entertainment at Zanies Comedy Club and the Arcada Family Theatre,
  • 5 Restaurants and Bars
  • 18 hole golf course
  • Spa Vargas Wellness
  • Bourbon Street Replica
  • Terrace with fire pit

With so much going on, including daily activities such as scavenger hunts and kid friendly movies, there is something for everyone. My kids especially loved going between the two indoor pools and then being able to dry off and play a few complimentary board games, all while enjoying some snacks from one of the resort restaurants.

I wish that I had been able to book a spa appointment during our stay, but since we were so busy with all of the Fall themed activities, I will just have to come back to enjoy it, maybe as part of their Girlfriends Spa Getaway package, or even just a “Massage Mania” package.

The reason why Pheasant Run Resort is such a great place to escape as an extended family is because there is so much to explore and everything is spacious, including the guest bedrooms. While the hotel is older and could use some upgrades, it has a distinct character that makes it stand apart.

Lastly, I would be remiss to point out that one of the reasons why we had such a great stay at Pheasant Run Resort is because of all of the absolutely lovely members of the staff. Not only were they accommodating, but they also seemed to truly enjoy working at the resort, which is not something I typically see when conducting hotel reviews. What the resort lacks in modern appearance, it makes up for with its hands on and welcoming staff.

I don’t live too far from St. Charles and I agree that Pheasant Run is incredible. St. Charles itself is a cool town so this is a great vacation destination. Especially now with the fall leaves!
