Evanston Lakefront

There’s just something about Evanston.  I’m not sure what it is exactly…the boutiques, cultural events, historic buildings, beautiful neighborhoods…there’s just too much to choose from.  But what my kids love about Evanston is simple: the lakefront.  Here are five things that you shouldn’t miss the next time you are at the Evanston lakefront.

The Playground

This creative and fun playground is inspired by the lake it overlooks.  The boat themed play structures are perfect for kids of all ages, with foam flooring near the more juvenile equipment and innovative and challenging equipment for the older visitors.  Our particular favorite is the wide variety of slides and swings, and how you can watch the waves and the Chicago skyline in the distance while you swing with your little ones.

The Water Fountain

Water fountains are a favorite in our family, and the one at the Evanston lake front does not disappoint.  You can either admire the fountains from a distance or get up close and personal, close enough to feed the ducks that call the water fountain pond home.

The Lakefront Parks

The parks along the Evanston shore hold a soft spot for me, since that is where my dog and husband proposed to me six years ago.  The parks are a perfect place to play Frisbee, have a picnic, grill out, and just watch the boats on the water.  Just be sure to get there early if you plan on using one of the park grills on the weekend—the parks are a very popular place to enjoy Chicago’s beautiful weather.

The Beaches

Although there is an admission fee for the beaches, they are not crowded and are very family friendly.  I couldn’t think of a better way to enjoy a summer day with your family.  There are five different beaches to choose from.  My personal favorite is the Lighthouse Beach because of its beauty and cleanliness.

Festivals and Special Events

Evanston is a culturally diverse city that celebrates the uniqueness of its residents through festivals, fairs and other special events throughout the year.  During the summer, there are so many art, musical, and other cultural celebrations on the lake front.  We especially love the Starlight Concert Series and enjoying the music presented by Evanston residents.

Hope to see you at the Evanston lakefront this summer!

I don’t spend a lot of time in Evanston, but maybe I should check it out again. Actually haven’t been there for around 5 years!

I moved away from Evanston five years ago and it has changed so much…for the better, if that is even possible. I highly recommend taking a trip out there again!

How beautiful! This looks like a perfect way to spend a lazy but fun filled summer day. I love the fountain and the park is perfect for letting the Kiddies burn off a bit of energy.
