Chicagoland Cafe Getaways

You know what I fantasize about?  Enjoying a cup up coffee in one sitting without any distractions.  Just me and sweet, sweet caffeine.  Since I have a feeling that I am not the only one who dreams of quiet and delicious bliss, I am highlighting my absolute FAVORITE cafes in Chicagoland to hit “pause” on motherhood and enjoy some time to yourself.

A Baker’s Tale (Wicker Park)

This whimsical café is a great place to relax in beautiful surroundings.  From the gorgeous tea cup tree in the main part of the café to the stunning chandeliers in the bathroom, A Baker’s Tale is a true delight.  Their food and drinks are storybook themed, and just as delicious as they are creative.

Must try:  Their paninis and creative cupcakes.cafesbakerstalecollage

Caffé Bene (Glenview)

This stylish and hip coffeehouse creates not only delicious drinks, but also frappes, waffles and honeybread, bingsu, gelato, and sandwiches.  I love that there is ample seating and tons of places to plug in your computer to have a deliciously productive work session…or simply online shop with a delicious latte.

Must try:  Their bingsu ice cream treats are fresh and decadent.

Floriole (Lincoln Park)

Not just a café, this delicious bakery is renowned for its delicious baguettes and pastries.  Originally starting out at the Green City Market, their beautiful two story café is located in scenic Lincoln Park and is a great place to stop for breakfast, lunch, or just a treat.  They proudly support local farmers and small businesses as well, which makes their food quality superb.

Must try:  Everything is amazing.  Absolutely amazing.  But if I had to pick something, it would be the chocolate pot de crème.

Foodstuffs (Evanston, Glencoe, Glenview, Lake Forest)

This gourmet food shop is a great place to enjoy a sweet treat or savory sandwich or salad.  I also enjoy the different juices they offer, as well as the fact that there are tons of premade foods to take to Ravinia, use for parties, or simply enjoy on a night when you don’t feel like cooking.

Must try:  Their salad bar…the salad dressings are amazing.

Patisserie Coralie (Evanston)

This Parisian pastry chop is known for its beautiful, delicious, and delicate pastries like macaroons, éclairs, tortes, Napoleons, and madeleines and its authentic French feel.  The adorable bistro style café can fill quickly, so be sure to snag one of the comfortable couches and relax with a delicious latte.

Must try: All of the pastries are amazing, but I must admit that the madeleines are my favorite!

I might still be jittery from all of the lattes I consumed, not going to lie. What was your favorite place to escape when you still lived here?

There’s a great little coffee shop called The Grind in Lincoln Square. It’s really small but always had delicious lattes. And if you’re not sans kiddos, the el is right there for some train watching entertainment. Also, there’s a playground close by.
