Chicago Summer Bucket List

Now that school is out and the fireworks have been lit, it is OFFICIALLY summer in Chicago!  Stressed about covering all of the “must do’s” in Chicagoland?  Have no fear—here is my Chicago Summer Bucket List.

Take a water taxi.

Hit up the zoo…either Lincoln Park or Brookfield.

Enjoy a Chicago style dog at Superdawg…at the original Chicago location, of course!

Explore Maggie Daley Park (and be sure to pack swim suits for the splash pads).

Don’t forget to read this summer and visit some of the best libraries across Chicagoland.

Cool off and play at Sod Room.

Attend a family concert at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Enjoy the trails, playground, and beach at Independence Grove.

Grill Like a Girl using some of these tried and true recipes…or be the star chef at someone else’s bbq.

Get up close and personal with some big rigs at a Touch a Truck event.

Catch a ball game at Wrigley Field.

Get muddy and learn about why Chicago was named after “Wild Garlic” at one of the many nature centers in the area.

Catch some rays at one of Chicago’s free beaches.

Avoid the tourists by visiting the typically “off the radar” Adler Planetarium and spend hours in the amazing kids area.

Indulge in some sweet treats at the BEST ice cream shops across Chicagoland!

Hire a babysitter and have a date night at one of these tropical drink locales.

Shop local and chat with farmers and artisans at a local farmer’s market.

Go for a hike or bike ride at some of the best trails in Chicagoland.

Happy Summer!

Just make sure to come during the summer….the beaches aren’t so fun any other time. Too cold!

Chicago looks like so much fun! I have never been there, but I may have to add it to my must visit list. Sounds like there is an abundance of things to do.

This is a great list. I have never been to Chicago before, however, I do know a few people in the area so I will tell them about your list.

There are so many fun outdoor things to do…if only Mother Nature would cooperate. It has been a VERY cold and rainy summer so far. Boo!

I like going to the off the radar places too. I look for them even when we go out of town. This is a great list full of fun ideas.

I have been wanting to visit some of the museums and the zoos in Chicago. I haven’t seen the museums in forever. One thing I really want to see is the Navy Pier. Thanks for sharing this as if we do get to Chicago I will have more ideas on what to do with the kids.

If you go to Navy Pier, I highly recommend taking a dinner cruise and seeing the fireworks on Wednesday or Saturday.
